PB are looking to recruit a Civil Works Superintendent to lead the site team and be responsible for all of the civil construction works for the 4800 MW(e) Medupi Power Plant project. This is the most exciting power project to be undertaken in South Africa for 20 years.
As a joint project team with our client, we will be building one of the largest coal-fired supercritical power stations in the world, comprising 6 units of 800MW(e) each. The project is currently the largest construction project taking place in the Southern hemisphere.
The work includes the construction of the all of the foundations, the Turbine buildings, Boilers civil works, Air-cooled condensers, Chimneys, also the power island infrastructure, earthing mat, transformer compounds and the coal and ash conveyor foundations as well as the ancillary buildings, reservoirs, etc.
Specific tasks will include:
o Leading and managing the Civil Works site team.
o Attending weekly and monthly co-ordination meetings.
o Managing the supervision of the contractors construction work in line with the employers contract requirements
o Ensuring the timely provision of all civil works and facilities required by the contractors as set out in the specifications.
o Liaising and dealing with contractors in respect of design and construction of site access/temporary roadways and shared facilities to accommodate all interests of affected parties.
o Compliance with Project HSE and Quality Assurance requirements.

Skills (Years Experience) : |
Qualified to degree standard or equivalent, the successful candidate will have a high level of motivation and confidence together with recent construction experience of large power plants or heavy civil engineering works.
