We are looking to recruit Civil Construction Inspectors to become part of the most exciting power project to be undertaken in South Africa for 20 years:
The Medupi Project. As a joint project team with our client, we will be building the largest coal-fired super critical power station in the world, comprising 6 units of 800MWe. The project is currently the largest construction project taking place in the Southern hemisphere.
In attendance during all concreting activities and other construction activities, the responsibilities of the role will include receiving, checking and ensuring contractor sign off of inspection reports and highlighting issues to the Assistant Civil Construction Engineers
Specific tasks will include inspecting:
o Backfill: Checking previous layers for compaction and conformity to the method statement.
o Excavation: Ensuring ground level and sides are clean and sound prior to bedding or blinding layer being poured.
o Concreting: Ensuring blinding and reinforcement is clean, correctly fixed, located and compliant with drawings. Ensuring formwork is properly fixed, cleaned, oiled and compliant with drawings.
o Drainage: Checking trenches for cleanliness. Checking pipe work laying, bedding material and backfill for compliance and pipe laying procedures. Testing pipes.
o Slipforming: Ensuring the concrete mix is correct; reinforcement joints are well scabbed and wetted before commencing concrete; formwork is cleaned and oiled; reinforcement is clean and properly fixed as per the approved drawings; tasking regime for concrete is followed; noting and activity breakdowns to mitigate the possibility of non-programmed cold joints.

Skills (Years Experience) : |
Qualified to HND/HNC standard is preferred, the successful candidate will have a high level of experience, motivation and confidence together with recent experience of heavy industrial construction. |
